Natural Resource Management
Overview
The Department of Natural Resources Management is one of the departments established in 2002 as per the government demand for the purpose of producing a development agent in natural resources management, while as a strategy placement of three development agents per Kebele level to contribute their share on achieving agricultural production and productivity in the country.
The department offers training in regular programs on middle level technical skills through input based training from 2002 to 2011 and since 2012 outcome-based approach in regular and extension (evening, weekend and summer) to produce knowledgeable and skilled professionals.
Department Facilities
The department has a well equipped and organized laboratory, workshop, sprinkler and drip irrigation demonstration site, Soil and water Conservation site for practical training. The department also has an Agroforestry demonstration site in Kite site; Nursery site, in Kosokol site used for demonstration of practical training and forest and beauty seedling production.
Short Term Trainings
The department has been providing short term trainings in the area of:
- Soil and Water Conservation
- Sustainable Land Management and Land Use System
- Forest Management and Utilization
- Environmental Protection
- Forest Development Techniques and Conservation for the local communities around the college
- Small scale Irrigation
- Wildlife conservation and ecotourism
In the department the effective adopted, multiplied and transferring agricultural technology with collaboration of technology offices are energy saving stoves, edible mushrooms and forest seedling.
Provide advisory services for local communities, private sectors and other interested groups:
- Involve in different income generation activities such as forest seedling and bio-gas
- Establishing environmental protection clubs for awareness to the local people
